January 30, 2010 - Valentine's Day is coming and Bali is ready to provide local residents with its special chocolate products.
Ketut Widana and Putu Rien Utami have been working hard to produce various types of chocolates to welcome the romantic day, a high season for their small-scale enterprise. Having produced their chocolate products under the brand Magic Chocolate since 2007, the young Balinese couple are ready to offer their products in domestic and foreign markets.
Working from their house/factory in Batubulan, Gianyar regency, the couple said they are now preparing to meet increasing demands for their chocolates at the local market. A number of clients from Japan, Australia and European countries have also placed orders, but the couple could not meet the overseas demand as they are now focusing on the domestic market.
For Valentine's Day, they have prepared one ton of raw material to create beautiful heart-shaped chocolates, flower and other forms. Packaging is one of their key successes. Their products are presented in gold-colored boxes adorned with pictures of Balinese dancers, temples or Barong and a short snippet of information about the picture. According to the owner, they're selling chocolates and at the same time promoting Bali's cultural assets.
To create different flavors, they also added cashew nuts, ginger, coconut and other distinctly Balinese ingredients. Widana and Utami are confident that their products can be enjoyed by both domestic and foreign chocolate lovers.
For their next step, the couple plans to build their own factory and workshop to train others who are eager to learn the art of the chocolatier.
